Erstwhile 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson and young singing sensation Rihanna have been sued by African singer Manu Dibango who has accused the pair of stealing a catch phrase from one of his songs, reported ‘Contactmusic’.

The 75-year-old singer, who hails from the Republic of Cameroon, claimed that his his 1972 song "Soul Makossa" was used by Jackson for his hit track ‘Wanna Be Startin Somethin’ from his 1982 album ‘Thriller’.

Jackson had reportedly reached a financial settlement with Dibango after accepting he used parts of the song, but the issue came up again when singer Rihanna used the melody on her Grammy-nominated single ‘Please Don't Stop the Music’ without contacting Dibango, but with Jackson's permission .

Dibango has filed papers in a Paris court seeking USD 650,330 in damages. His lawyers have also asked the court to block record labels Sony BMG, EMI and Warner from receiving any income from the songs until the issue is settled.

sue by Saffron on 2009-02-04 23:05:49.460342+05:30 I think that it isn't fair that Manu Dibango has sued Rihanna and Jackson for using the beat to his song Rihanna probably didn't know that the beat from the 'thriller' and her single 'please don't stop the music' was originated by Manu Dibango and asked Jalson i think they should not be sued.
