MBE, Rajiv Gandhi awards for Malkit Singh

Bhangra-pop ace Malkit Singh has been awarded with the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) - by the British Government. He will receive the honour from Queen Elizabeth II. Malkit Singh is celebrated for the songs Guru nalo ishq meetha, Tootak tootak tootiyaan, Kurri garam jayee as well as Chal hun. His Jind maahi featured in the blockbuster Bend It Like Beckham soundtrack. Malkit cites The Stone Roses and the ‘80s Manchester music scene among his early influences.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry established on June 4, 1917 by King George V. Queen Elizabeth II will present this award at a spectacular ceremony with exclusive celebrities.
Malkit Singh has about 100 Punjabi albums to his credit. A pop icon, Malkit has made the country proud by receiving many honours and his long and successful career. Malkit Singh was also awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation award as Global Indian on August 17.
