Late actor Heath Ledger has emerged as the strongest favourite to win the posthumous Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category for his negative role in Batman flick ‘The Dark Knight’.

The Australian star is a 1-50 to get the award, which is shortest odds ever, according to bookmakers William Hill, the ‘Mirror’ reported.

The bookies predict that the odds are likely to get even shorter ahead of the ceremony. Some online bookmakers are already offering staggering odds of 1-100 for the actor.

Ledger, who died of an accidental overdose in January last year, has already bagged a BAFTA and the Golden Globe for his villainous role as "The Joker" in ‘The Dark Knight’.

The other nominees under the Supporting category are -- Michael Josh Brolin for ‘Milk’, Robert Downey Junior ‘Tropic Thunder’, Philip Seymour Hoffman ‘Doubt’ and Michael Shannon ‘Revolutionary Road’ but Ledger's claim appears to be the strongest.

"Heath is such an absolute certainty you've got to feel a bit sorry for the fellow nominees. They have no absolutely no chance whatsoever of winning," said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

He also predicted a guaranteed win for British-Indian film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ under the Best Movie category with odds of 1-10.
