Mahesh Manjrekar unveiled the first look of his Lalbaug Parel - Zhali Mumbai Sonyachi… amongst the milieu of mill workers of Mumbai
Known for making films on social messages, Manjrekar’s next project is a bilingual. While the Marathi version is titled Lalbaug Parel - Zhali Mumbai Sonyachi, it is City Of Gold - Mumbai 1982: Ek Ankahi Kahani in Hindi. Made under the new banner of DAR Motion Pictures in association with Mahesh Manjrekar, the film is based on the mill strike of 1982 and the trials and tribulations of a mill-worker’s family affected by it. Lalbaug Parel releases on April 9.

The evening begun with dance performances by Resham Tipnis, Kranti Redkar and Siddarth Jadhav before Y. C. Pawar, retired joint commissioner of Police unveiled the first look. Present on the occasion were writer-director Mahesh Manjrekar, producer Arun Rangachari, Satish Kaushik, Seema Biswas, Siddharth Jadhav, Ankush Chaudhary, Karan Patel, script writer and playwright Jayant Pawar, and others. Thousands of mill workers were also present.
Y. C. Pawar spoke about his experience during the strike in 1982. Datta Iswalkar, leader of the Girni Kamgar Sangharsh Samiti and few others spoke about the troubled times that the mill workers have faced since then.
