Kerala State Film Awards 2008 announced

The Kerala State Film Awards for 2008, announced recently, saw Dadasaheb Phalke Award-winner and internationally-acclaimed director Adoor Gopalakrishnan and his film Oru Pennum Randaanum winning the maximum number of awards. While Adoor Gopalakrishnan won the award for best director, it was his Oru Pennum Randaanum, based on short stories by Thakazhi Shivasankara Pillai, which won the award for the best film. The best actor award was given to Lal, for his performance in the Madhupal- directed Thalappavu while Priyanka, for her sensitive performance in the T.V. Chandran-directed Vilaapangalkkappuram, won the best actress award. The T.V. Chandran-directed Bhoomimalayalam won the award for the second best film.

The other awards included second Best Actor- Anoop Menon (Thirakkatha), second Best Actress- Praveena (Oru Pennum Randaanum), Best Actor in a comic role-Mamukkoya(Innathe Chinthavishayam),BestChild Artiste- Niveda Thomas (Veruthe Oru Bharya),Best Story-Aryadan Shoukath (Vilaapangalkkappuram),Best Cinematography-M.J. Radhakrishnan (Adayalangal), Best Screenplay- Adoor Gopalakrishnan (Oru Pennum Randaanum), Best Lyricist- O.N.V. Kurup (for the song Oru naal oru shubha raathri…in the film Gulmohar), Best Music Director-M.Jayachandran (Madambi), Best Background Score- Chandran Veyyattummel (Bioscope), Best Playback Singer- Shankar Mahadevan (for the song Kalyaana kacheri… in Madambi), Best Female Playback Singer- Manjari (for the song Mullulla murikkinmel…from Vilaapangalkkappuram,Best Editing- Beena Paul Venugopal (Bioscope), Best Art Direction- Manu Jagath (Calcutta News), Best Sound Recordist- T. Krishnanunni and Harikumar (Oru Pennum Randaanum), Best Processing Laboratory- Chitranjali Studio (Bioscope), Best Make-Up Artist- Ranjith Ambadi (Thirakkatha), Best Costume Design- Kumar Edappal (Vilaapangalkkappuram), Best Dubbing Artiste- Sreeja (Minnaminnikoottam), Best Choreographer- Brinda and Vinod (Calcutta News), Popular Film with Aesthetic Appeal- Innathe Chinthavishayam, Best Debutant Director- Madhupal (Thalappavu), Special Jury Mention- Madhusoodanan (director of Bioscope), Best Writing on Cinema- Vadakkanpattu Cinemakal: Desiyathayum Samoohikathayum, written by P. S. Radhakrishnan, Best Book on Cinema- Bodhatheerangalil Kalam Midikkumpol (A. Chandrasekhar). The awards were decided by a Jury headed by noted filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli and were announced recently at a press meet in Thiruvananthapuram.
