Kambakkht Ishq explores the relationship between two individuals as different as chalk and cheese. Viraj Shergill, played by Akshay Kumar, is a swashbuckling stuntman in Hollywood who detests women. Meanwhile Simrita Rai, essayed by Kareena Kapoor, is a part-time supermodel who wants to become a sergeant. Someone who has a caustic wit and sardonic tongue. She does not believe in love. What’s more, she cannot stand the sight of Shergill.

But as fate would have it, the two find each other in a difficult situation when Simrita’s best friend Kamini and Viraj’s brother Lucky decide to get married.

Even as they try and prevent the wedding, Shergill and Rai find themselves being thrown into situations that lead them closer to each other. Finally, a dramatic twist of fate binds them together in a manner that they could have never ever dreamt of in the wildest of their fantasies.

How do I describe the feeling that apart from directing two of the hottest, most successful actors in Bollywood (Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor), I was, in my very first film as a director, directing Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards, Brandon Routh and so many other celebrated actors from Hollywood! I was calling ‘Action’ and ‘Cut’ in the back-lots of Universal Studios, the soundstages of Paramount and at the esteemed interiors of the Kodak Theatre. I had a strong crew of 200 that worked painstakingly as the film shifted from Los Angeles to Italy and then to its final stages of production in Mumbai.

Everyday of making this film has been extraordinary and I would like to thank my wonderful cast and crew for making it such an incredible experience. There are many people I’d like to thank, especially Akshay and Kareena for plunging so deep into the script with all their heart. Thanks to their devoted performances, they have brought to life the protagonists Viraj and Simrita wonderfully.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the single most influential man in my life and my career; the man who gave me not only the power to dream but to dream extraordinarily big and actually achieve it - Sajid Nadiadwala.

I lost myself early in life to the extraordinary magic of lights being dimmed in cinema halls and the silver screen taking over completely, of transporting the audience and me in those few hours, place we could never imagine. Now as a filmmaker, I hope I can achieve the same, to give the audience what they come seeking eagerly to movie halls - extraordinary entertainment.
