




One of the most celebrated tabla players of India, Shafaat Ahmed Khan dominated Indian classical percussion and belonged to the Delhi gharana. He had his training under his illustrious father, Ustad Chamma Khan who was the tabla maestro of the gharana. Shafaat was also very mush equipped with the different idioms of Hindustani rhythm. Shafaat’s maternal grandfather, Ustad Chand Khan was a vocalist of repute and his uncles Ustad Nasir Ahmed Khan and Ustad Bande Nawab Khan were vocalist and sarangi player respectively. Armed with such an illustrious musical family, it was but natural that young Shafaat continued the tradition.
Ustad Shafaat Ahmed Khan died on July 24, 2005. Kamal Sabri, son of sarangi legend Ustad Sabri Khan carried forward the rich legacy of the Senia Gharana of Moradabad. He is the seventh generation of a distinguished family of traditional musicians and has demonstrated profound versatility in playing the sarangi.
Initiated and trained by his father from the tender age of 5 years, very soon this child prodigy made waves in the musical world with his talent. Kamal has also made his mark on the international musical forum and has participated and represented India in several International festivals including the Art of the Bow Festival in Geneva, Switzerland and BBC Millennium Concert in Birmingham, UK, among others.
Kamal has many achievements to his credit, including, the privilege to be the youngest Indian musician to participate in Les 24 heures du raga (the 24 hours Millennium concert) in Paris
