Kurbaan
Sony Music, Rs 160
Salim-Sulaiman’s music is not exactly the stuff Dharma Productions’ best music is made of. The first three songs, including the catchy Shukran Allah (Sonu-Shreya-Salim Merchant) make the album get the feel of a Sufi-Pop album, while Rasiya and Kurbaan hua are nothing to write home about.
Fitoor
Universal, Rs 150
Mohit Chauhan, who has sung a bunch of hits in films since Jab We Met, makes his debut in a solo album - and we mean a solo album in the truest sense. The refreshing part of Fitoor is that it has 10 full tracks - there are no remix tracks, unplugged versions or reprises. Mohit is his usual self, but we wish his singing was a shade more peppy or punchy.
The music itself is a mixed bag and five songs are worth a listen for their sheer freshness - Fitoor (with Rocky), Sajna (which is plain superb), the daisy-fresh Uff yeh nazara, Mai ni meriye (a tribute to Mohit’s hometown Shimla) and Babaji.
