The first episode had the couples doing a grihapravesh as each of them settled in their little bungalows complete with a kitchen, bedroom etc - Rakhi Sawant, Debina and Mouni Roy promptly separated their bed (bharatiya naris you see, who can’t be seen on national television sharing the same bed before marriage). The second had them wearing empathy bellies to ‘feel’ their pregnancies, baby kicks, et al. Shilpa Saklani couldn’t wear it because she had a severe back problem so it was left to Apurva who sportingly wore it without any complaints. Juhi threw a lot of tantrums saying that she had a tailbone fracture, had breathing problems wearing it and even suggested Sachin wear it for some time. Mouni too cribbed but her partner Gaurav Chopra talked her into wearing it. Debina wore it after a little fuss while “superwoman” Rakhi (her words) wore it the whole day, saying she wanted to feel every inch of being a mother. After a sweetly done godhbharai for all the girls, the real babies finally turned up at their houses complete with baby beds, toys, and baby manuals put together by their real parents. Interestingly, Shilpa and Apurva have got themselves twins, not that they wanted them.
Now, what we like about the show: We certainly like Debina and Gurmeet, the Ram-Sita jodi of Imagine’s Ramayana. They are the most compatible couple, very understanding and very endearing, absolutely fuss free; we also liked Gurmeet’s concern for the baby as he asked its parents about the baby’s likes and dislikes, food and sleeping patterns. Rakhi and Elesh and Shilpa and Apurva come next. While Rakhi has been quoted to have packed off Elesh and called off their engagement because her Indian values couldn’t relate to his “western” ones, the lip-to-lip kiss and other intimate moments displayed on the show suggest something else. Mouni and Gaurav look totally out of place while Juhi literally throws her weight around and poor Sachin is left gritting his teeth.
So far so good, though we are sure the coming episodes are going to bring out the not-so-good side of these couples as they are thrown into the actual task of bringing up babies, sleepless nights, fights, arguments, and not to forget some heated moments with the real parents. Also, viewers just might not like the fact that some parents have actually given their babies under the care of inexperienced celebrities! But that’s the lure of television today, guys. All in all, a show which is indeed different, relatable (now who doesn’t know the perils of 24x7 parenting?) and has all the ingredients of an entertainer. As for us viewers, it’s like having the ‘Bacchu, ab pata chalega aate dal ka bhav’ feeling.
Verdict:
Watch it. You never know - you just might pick up some parenting tips.
