The lovely Ayesha Takia gets chatting about her upcoming film Wanted and why she will continue to act in movies

What attracted you to a project like Wanted, a male- dominated, action-oriented film?
The fact that I had never seen myself in an out-and-out masala film, and that too in a performance-oriented role, was a big incentive to do Wanted. And then, I didn’t want to let go of the chance of working with Prabhudheva.

What are you playing in the film?
I am playing this very sweet and innocent girl, Jhanvi, who comes from a middle class family, and how her simple life takes a turn around when she meets Salman.

Are you happy with the way your role has shaped up?
I am! I am a director’s actress and always do exactly what the director tells me. So if I do a bad job, blame it on the director and if I do a good job then I would like to give him the credit. But Prabhudheva is an excellent director. He may have a language problem but he explains everything so explicitly with actions.

Was it easy to follow Prabhudheva’s dance moves?
I won’t deny that I was scared and frightened on the first day of shooting as the film took off with a dance sequence. I didn’t want to make a fool of myself with someone who is called the rubber man. So I just quietly watched him do some steps as if they were the easiest thing in the world. I took a couple of hours to perfect the same steps!

How was Salman as a co-star?
I am not one who gets nervous easily, but working with an actor who is a big favourite with women and has such a broad spectrum of work did make me a bit shaky. But he was so very helpful and easygoing. You know, I have this habit of wrinkling up my nose at every small thing, and he made me get rid of the habit by checking me every time I did it!

Like every other actress, are you also trying to attain size-zero?
With a strict diet and yoga, I have knocked off a couple of kilos, but I don’t think I can become size-zero.

What do you have to say about reports that you will be quitting films soon?
I never said I am giving up films after marriage. I love my art and will continue doing films that excite me.

Are you still doing Revathy Varma’s film, Aap Ke Liye Hum?
The film has been delayed because Revathy took time off for her knee surgery, and everyone’s dates went awry. But it’s okay, I am definitely doing it. It’s a very interesting role of a girl adopting a mother, and I am very excited about it.

What do you have to say about Abhay Deol, your co-star in your first film Socha Na Tha?
I am very proud of the work that Abhay is doing, and also the fact that he only does films he believes in.

Does your husband, Farhan Azmi, watch your films?
Farhan hates watching my films. I think he has only seen Dor, but I will make sure he watches Wanted.
