Shooting is complete for the Kaushik Ghatak directed film who’s previously directed ‘Kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi’ and ‘Sanjivni’. Sood insist the film will be completely different from Ghatak’s specialty, of saas bahu dramas. But cheesy family dramas are Rajshri Productions’ forte, remember? “I play Prem an aspiring singer from Bhopal who meets Esha and falls in love with her voice. He has to wait for 12 years until he can marry her,” says Sood, sounding optimistic about the screen play. Typically, Koppikar’s character is simple and blemish free, a pretty girl who plays the harmonium and worships a tulsi plant in her courtyard.
Clichéd though the plot may sound, playing a romantic lead in a Rajshri Production is a big step for a bit actor like Sood. His last outing with romance was with the dud ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’ (2005). And then, he’s following in the illustrious footsteps of Salman Khan who also played Prem, in ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’, one of the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema.
“This film has more depth. It traces my character’s journey growing up, from college to becoming a man of the world. The movie treats relationships with sensitivity,” says Sood. “I’m praying that 10 years down, people count me among the romantic actors in Bollywood,” says Sood, with a touch of apprehension. In case Ek Vivah.. doesn’t work out, Sood has ‘Dhoondte Reh Jaoge’, in which he plays a superstar balancing 11 roles. Some character artist, this.
