Proving his versatility, Karzzzz director Satish Kaushik says he's proud of the remake

Actor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik, best remembered for his character ‘Calendar’ in Shekhar Kapur’s Mr India, says contrary to his popular comedian image as an actor, he has always directed sensitive, dramatic movies.

“When I am asked how I have maintained this balance, I always say that this proves my versatility as a creative person,” says Satish Kaushik, who has directed Karzzzz starring Himesh Reshammiya and Urmila Matondkar.

Karzzzz, a remake of Subhash Ghai’s 1980s blockbuster Karz starring Rishi Kapoor, will be releasing on October 17. T-series, producers of the remake, purchased the rights of the film from Ghai.

Satish said his next film as an actor is Chatursingh 2 Star, a comedy with Sanjay Dutt.

When asked why he was not seen on screen for a long time, Satish says that he was busy directing movies and acting took a backseat. “But I worked in a British film called Brick Lane last year, which got a standing ovation in Toronto film festival last year. I will soon begin work on an American film,” he added.

Speaking about Karzzzz, Satish said he is not afraid of comparisons with the original. “Comparisons are inevitable. It is not for the first time a remake is being made. I have made remakes of many Tamil and Telugu movies, but it is for the first time that I am remaking a Hindi film,” he said.
