Its the way you look at it
by Su on 2009-11-01 10:00:45.050433+05:30 Its just that we live in a society.... Every god and goddess of any religion is associated with sanctity... which can not be tampered publicly... Some people may not care... But some do.. as they believe in them.... She is a public figure who is judged constantly... She should have though about the repercussions...

Everyone is commenting without knowing the fact
by gopinathan on 2008-11-06 14:13:22.957837+05:30 For the kind information of all ignorant people posting comments about this news: Halloween is a day celebrated in the US during which people dress up or wear scaring horrible costumes to appear like devils to scare away devils or witches. Now this question to everyone saying nothing is wrong in it and advicing us to be patient: Will you say it is ok to dress up like Kali in an event meant to dress up like scary devil like creatures? Do you all mean to say Kali is a devil? If you all still preach to those opposing this event to be silent, then it means you all are considering Kali a devil. And the most of all, will you all preach the same to people of other religions if their gods were insulted in the same way? And why does Heidi Klum not dress up like Mary or Jesus for Halloween? She won't. Because she knows the meaning of Halloween.

1 Tolerance
by Sam on 2008-11-13 19:11:35.657511+05:30Dude, I live in the US and am Indian. Lots of Indians participate in Halloween parties. None of us want to drive away devils or feel remotely Christiany because of a party. For a lot of us, including Americans, it's a holiday, where many parties get thrown. In these parties, you are supposed to dress up. The range of dress up can be from doctors-nurses to Jesus to Mother Teresa and there is not a single famous personality that isn't caricatured. The point is to take it good naturedly, not to offend anyone. So logic would prevail, that if someone is not trying to offend you in their private affair, why would you feel offended? Just cause they are famous and you happen to think, gee, I am allowed to dress up as Kali, but not her, she's famous, and must surely think bad about us Hindus.Take it easy. If you really want to object to something, do something about corruption and poverty in India.Peace.Sam

Hindus should learn
by D.Bose on 2008-11-05 09:27:47.343965+05:30 Hindus should not worship Kali or siva Linga. These are gross distortions of Hinduism. there was no mention about Siva or Kali in the Hindu Sastras like Vedas, Upanishads and Bhagwat Gita. Thus Hindus must not worship anything not recommended by our Sastras. According to Sri Krishna We should not worship any deity at all or build temples, but observe only the paths recommended by him: Gana Yoga and Karma Yoga. It is unfortunate that Hindus do not read Sastras and follow the wrong paths and accepts anything that can satisfy their feelings irrespective of what is written in the Sastras. There is no Gods or Goddeses in Hindu religion, but only One Creator Brahman.

Hinduism
by ankur on 2008-11-05 05:10:08.960242+05:30 To all those who are criticizing saffron for taking up the cause of Hinduism and to logical person citing American hindu Community as an immature children do they even know what the hinduism stands for. Hinduism is bigger than religion and infact it is a way of life. By portraying and making a mockery of devi kali they have mocked at the way we live and offended the whole of India. Saffron workers are only reacting in this way because of cong following a poilicy of appeasement for muslims which has created a divide between hindus and muslims. Saffron party is just protecting hinduism from Islam. Nobody criticizes when there are attacks on temple but our cong leaders take pain to visit terrorisits in jails and visit them and sympathises with them. It has become a fashion to criticize Hinduism specially when ur hindu. All of u who do that do that in order to show that ue very cool guys.In fact you have uprooted ur basic roots on which u were brought up.

Chill out!
by Prateek Awasthi on 2008-11-05 02:28:39.565112+05:30 We Indians need to be more tolerant. We can't throw a fuss like this all the time. If we make fun of George Bush, we don't see Americans shouting at us. If we dress up as Count Dracula, we don't see Eastern Europeans shouting. We have to learn to be comfortable with out culture. Goddess Kali is the goddess of destruction. And whether you like it or not, she has a scary avatar. So if a German woman takes the effort to dress us as her, we should see it as a sign that Indian culture is getting popular abroad. Take it easy.

Fail to see the desecration
by Jai Khurana on 2008-11-05 00:35:03.294626+05:30 I dont think Indian culture is that weak that it will be tarnished by a costume worn by a foreign female. During Halloween many people dress in mystical, mythical and religious figures. She did not desecrate the godess in any way . Many Indians also wear such costumes during plays and smoke beedi when on them . If that is not offensive why is this . Is this just because she is a gori or what ? . The only thing I thgt she said was that Maa Kali looked like a mean godess which can at best be termed ignorant on her part . But then Americans and foreigners are known to be ignorant of Asian culture anyway . So all those Zed's and A's and B's . Please dont act immature .

Maa Kali
by Sanjay on 2008-11-04 23:26:48.938668+05:30 I'm shocked by all this. I'm fervent Hindu and I'm finding this very funny indeed that American Hindus want an apology. Apology from what? Heidi wore a costume of Kali and what has got to do with blasphemy? Is she actually hurting anybody? Is somebody hurt? Is she taking food from Indian children? Please please, all these people who are complaining about this, maybe should complain about poverty in India. If one of you have given a dollar to an Indian child in need rather than complaining, it would have already made such a difference... I rest my case. I've been in the west myself for the past 10 years and such hypocrisie at times makes me mad! Just get a life and stop complaining and maybe give love and compassion to the poor!Sanjay

I am sure a day will come when we will want TV to stop airing hindu mythological serials. there is absolutely nothing wrong in Heidi wearing that dress. Why does everybody feel that it was meant to be offensive? Isnt this how the taliban started their religious intolerance in Afghanistan? Sad indeed

It has given Kali Matha huge publicity.People will see the costume, wonder what it is and will inquire into it. They will then come in touch with the beauty of the Sanatana Dharma.Dont take it in the wrong spirit guys....it is a free worldwide advertisement from a high profile person who herself is a westener. We definitely dont want to be dull and drab like the church or archaic like the the desert religion.

This is a joke, right?
by The only logical person here on 2008-11-04 18:41:46.440288+05:30 What the hell makes you crazy people think that this costume is in any way offensive? Or that it is used as a publicity stunt? Or, as they put it, "...to advance their selfish agenda" or "...thrown around loosely for dramatic effect" or ......"pillaging serious spiritual doctrines..."?? It is the Hindu community that is turning this into a publicity stunt. I would never have known what this b-list celebrity had dressed as. Do you feel like it's a mockery? Because to me it looks pretty damn impressive, which in OUR culture, is almost a form of worship. Do you have any idea the work that probably went into that? You talk about worship and reverence, what is an apology going to do for you and your religion? If she apologizes, she comes out on top. She looks like the good person who cares that she offended a group of people. The American Hindu community however looks like a group of rich and immature children who used this poor woman to launch them into the spotlight for 15 minutes.

by Gopinathan on 2008-11-04 20:27:11.411547+05:30Logical person, do you have something called conscience? Probably not. Your comments reflect the fact that you don't have it. Why don't you disclose your name, are u afraid that people will ask you whether you will react the same way if your god is portrayed like this? Appearing in Kali costume itself may not be denigrating, but did you notice the function or the purpose? It was Halloween. Probably you don't know the meaning of Halloween. If you don't know don't comment.

Heidi Klum should apologise
by Bhimsen on 2008-11-04 17:19:32.480929+05:30 Heidi Klum(sy) and her husband Seal have knowingly adopted this costume for Halloween party. We read from newspapers that they were in India and are well versed in Hindu traditions religion and customs. It is sad that despite knowing about our religion these people have used our customs as a joke. Halloween parties are meant for fun where people dress up in the most horrifying costumes and Goddess Kaali is an avataar of Shakti for destruction of evil. Klum and her event managers have committed a blasphemy and they should apologise to Hindus for hurting the feelings.

Heidi
by True Hindu on 2008-11-04 16:13:18.375719+05:30 Heidi has actually done a commendable job that will generate some awareness about Hinduism in the wider world. If anybody is ridiculing Hinduism today it is the saffron nutters and their half wit followers who have reduced this one of the greatest and oldest method of livings into a mere religion fighting against other religions. The self appointed custodians of my religions should just shut up or divert their shouts towards the thackreys, singhals, modies and togadias who are hell bent upon desecrating my religion in their power grabbing quest.

by debjani on 2008-11-04 16:32:39.50428+05:30Excuse me! Do you have any idea about Halloween? People dress up as scary witches or other devilish characters. From which angle our Goddess Kali qualifies to be depicted as a Halloween costume? And how come it is an awareness of Hindu religion? If Ms. klum was dressing up as a bhutni or a churayl, that would have been appropriate. And I do care about my religion enough to say what is correct. Why do you not shut up till you develop some respect for your religion and know that talking right about Hindu religion need not put one in the bracket of Hindu fanatic?

Atleast she has not defamed the religion as our Hindus did by raping a catholic nun in Orissa.
