TIPS Films’ latest romantic comedy, Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, has been shot extensively on a sprawling set in Ooty spread across 500 acres. And to create this small town, 1200 people worked on the set over 50 days, reveals producer Ramesh Taurani. Not just the houses of the lead characters, but even restaurants, coffee shops, a theatre and a church were built with minute details. In fact, set designer Nitish Roy even put up cobbled streets across the set to up the authenticity quotient. While shooting for the 40-day schedule, neither Katrina nor Ranbir had any time to explore the town after pack-up since director Rajkumar Santoshi ensured that they report on the sets at 7 a.m. and call it a day only after 7 p.m. With their hotel an hour’s drive from the sets, not just Katrina and Ranbir, but all the unit members too would immediately opt for dinner and retire to bed. And though they did not miss the shoot for a single day, the actors did get an unexpected short break when strong winds translated into bad weather, leaving the director with little option but to postpone the shoot by three days.

“Post Ooty, we shot at Istanbul and Antalya in Turkey for ten days to shoot two songs, Tera hone laga and Tu jaane na. The second track, choreographed by Ahmed Khan, has a Sufi element to it and we got Turkish dancers to be part of it,” offers the producer. As for the song currently playing on television, Main tera dhadkan teri, it was shot at a set in Mumbai over five days. The film, which is slated for release on November 6, saw a day’s patchwork last week at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai.
