Do you think Golmaal Returns will generate similar response as Golmaal did?
It has to, as it is funnier that Golmaal. It has a lot of fun and humour. I am sure people will get entertained and come out of the theatres with a happy smile on their faces during the festive season. Golmaal Returns will win all hearts. I vouch for that.
What was the reason for promoting the film in London?
I was in London for one whole month shooting for London Dreams. And when I found some free time during the shooting; I did some interviews! I think it is important to promote any film to create awareness amongst all. It was an opportunity I did not want to miss.
This is your second film with Kareena Kapoor after Omkara. What was the equation between the two of you this time?
It is always great to work with Kareena. We share a great rapport. And it was fun to do a comedy film together because she has a great sense of humour which is hidden otherwise.
She plays an ardent fan of Ekta Kapoor’s serials and is a suspicious wife. Tusshar is playing her brother. Did you have some hilarious moments while shooting for the film?
Kareena had seen Golmaal and was quite buoyant about this film. Her name is Ekta in the film and she is an ardent Balaji Telefilms’ fan and watches all their serials. She begins suspecting her husband, that is me, and cooks up stories so much so that the husband is fed up of her tales. And thus he begins to lie to her and small lies end up creating a major chaos in their household. Tusshar, like in real life, plays Ekta’s brother. The two join hands and make my life miserable and it is fun to watch the circumstances that lead to side-splitting moments.
There were times when we had to go in for several retakes as we would break into laughter. Even the technicians and spot boys were not spared. It was a fun atmosphere on the sets as well.
This time again, Tusshar is playing the dumb character.
Yes (laughs) and believe me, he has mastered the art of playing a dumb guy. He can now be uproarious even when not shooting.
What was the equation with Arshad Warsi and Tusshar?
All of us get along very well and this is very important when doing a comedy film. I have done a few films with Tusshar and Arshad and me have done three films together.
How did you find Shreyas Talpade who has replaced Sharman Joshi in Golmaal Returns?
Shreyas gelled well with the team and the character right from day one. He is a very good actor.
All the four of you four have even dressed as girls for a scene. What was the atmosphere while doing that particular scene?
It was funny (laughs) and awkward. It is a part of our job and as actors, we have to do what is expected of us. We did have a jovial time doing this scene.
From an action director, Rohit Shetty has moved to making comedies? According to you was it a wise decision?
It is not about comedies or action films. It is about what you can deliver convincingly. I think Rohit is a good director. I must say he has managed to tap the pulse of the audience.
What next after U, Me Aur Hum?
I am working on the script though nothing concrete has come up yet. I want to direct another film but that will happen only next year.
For London Dreams, you seemed to have got yourself a new look? How was it experimenting?
London Dreams is a different and an upbeat film. And yes I have a different look in it. I have a stubble and I hope people like it because I am enjoying it. I don’t mind experimenting with my looks as long as the script demands it.
You are doing a film with Vipul Shah for the first time and you are working with Salman Khan again. How was the experience?
Vipul, as everyone is aware, is an organised director and knows what he wants from his team. Salman is a good friend and it was fun be working together again. We shared a good rapport with Asin, the new heroine.
You are back with Kajol in Toonpur Ka Superhero. What kind of memories did you share while shooting for the film?
Nothing really, we were just doing our work. I always enjoy working with her.
How is it performing along with animated characters in the toon world?
It is tough because you are performing to yourself as there is no one with you. The animated characters are incorporated later.
After Phool Aur Kaante, you are back to performing your own stunts in Toonpur ... and even hurt your back while performing a stunt for the film.
Oh, it was a minor accident. As for performing the stunts, it was fantastic doing something I have always enjoyed. I would love to do more stunts since it is not really dangerous now with all kinds of precautionary measures.
Did you enjoy your tryst on TV as the judge for Zee TV’s reality show Rock N Roll Family?
That was another great experience. I enjoyed judging people and most importantly, being myself.
What next after Golmaal Returns?
Shooting for Prakash Jha’s Rajniti starts in February. I also have an untitled film with Priyadarshan which is a comedy. Then there is a film with Rohit Shetty that we are working on. That is all I have at the moment so I want to enjoy life in the meantime.
