Launch
I play Dr Arjun Awasthi, a cardiologist who is not connected with cricket or with Meera played by Mandira Bedi. But when they meet and fall in love, his life goes for a six. That’s all I can tell you right now. To know more you will have to watch the film. The character is quite close to what I am in real life.
Casting Coup
I just happened to bag this role. It wasn’t like I was looking out for roles and approaching people. I was just wrapping up my TV serials when Pritish Nandy offered this film. He asked me if I would like to do a full-length feature film and I said “Why not?” I did not need to give any auditions.
Stepping Stone
Well it all happened step-by-step. I am trained in dancing and had taken part in a lot of competitions in school. I was an engineering student and I had never imagined that I would end up in this field. I stared modelling and then went on to music videos and television serials. And now finally I am doing a film.
First Shot
Initially I was a little jittery on the sets. My first shot was when I had to get down from a car. It was supposed to be my first date with Mandira and we were going out for our first cup of coffee. Also I had to get used to understanding how the director wanted a particular shot to be.
Stumbling-block
You know it is actually going to get more difficult for me from now on. The problems and obstacles are going to begin now. The stigma that television artistes cannot act needs to be eradicated.
Lessons learnt
I have to learn to be more diplomatic and politically correct. I have to try and be a people’s person. I want to be more approachable and at the same time concentrate and continue doing good work.
Matinee Idol
I look up to Salman Khan. Actually I would love to work with all top actors. I takes a lot to become a successful actor and hats off to anyone who is established as a good actor.
Future projects
I am doing a film with Dharmesh Darshan titled Bhanwara and after that I have signed another Pritish Nandy Film, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
