"Those who are writing films these days are not different from those who are watching it. They are normal people have similar concerns like the audience. Their emotional allegiance is towards their subjects. This is not a director's state of mind," he said while talking to reporters at the music launch of 'Roadside Romeo', an animation film produced by Yashraj films in collaboration with Walt Disney.
"If a director does not understand what I am trying to say, I might direct a film. but, I hope the day never comes," he said.
Sahni said the film industry like any other business is trying to find a right balance in the quality of its output, adding "some times very good stuff is delivered and sometimes we fall flat on our nose."
The writer who has penned acclaimed films like 'Khosla Ka Ghosla' and 'Chak de India', said it was a fallacy that producers are not open to good scripts and good writers do not get a chance to prove their mettle.
"It is after all the producers who stake their money in our projects. It is our responsibility to navigate effectively through all stake holders," he said.
When asked how different was it penning lyrics for an animation film, Sahni said, "here it was a street dog as the protagonist. Street dogs have no respect. Hence the lyrics were woven around doing something to get that respect."
