What did you like about your role in Fashion?
That the character was not your typical wannabe fashion model, but one who stuck to his righteous attitude and did not take short cuts to fame. I found that very interesting!
Being a model, the role must have been a cakewalk for you?
I was never a fashion model but yes having walked the ramp a couple of times getting under the skin of the character was easy.
How is Madhur Bhandarkar as a director?
Since Madhur is a very relaxed person so it makes it very easy for any actor to work with him. His detailing of a character in terms of behaviour, body language and expressions is also phenomenal, so we just cannot go wrong in our portrayals.
What’s the one thing about Priyanka Chopra that we don’t know?
Everyone knows that Priyanka is a very pretty girl and a great actress. Not everyone knows that she’s a very humble, hassle-free and a no- tantrums person! She has amazing energy levels and can look fresh after working for 24 hours! Also, I can never forget how she put me at ease for the intimate scenes we did together for Fashion.
Did Summer 2007, your last film help you get a foothold in the industry?
The film certainly got me noticed and appreciated as an actor. Directors Sudhir Mishra and David Dhawan who were present for the premiere, appreciated my work, and said I had great screen presence. Of course there has been no immediate career move, but it is in the process.
How have South films helped you?
Since I am from Delhi with no filmi background, starting off in South films was a good way to prepare myself for Hindi films. I learnt the ropes of filmmaking, even if it was in a different language.
What advantage does an ad model like you have over the other newcomers?
The exposure one gets from ads is phenomenal. It worked extra well for me as I had done ads with Katrina Kaif and Preity Zinta which got me noticed immediately.
A lot of South films are made into Hindi but which Hindi film you think will work with the South audiences?
I was working with top Telugu director Sreenu Vyda and he said that A Wednesday had a universal subject and appeal. I think Rock On!! would appeal to audiences all over as music is a universal language.
Tell us why should a filmmaker take Arjan Bajwa in his film?
The feedback from filmmakers is that I can be moulded to look drastically different with minor makeovers. And that is a plus point for any actor.
What are your goals?
I would like to do various kinds of cinema. A black belt in Taekwando, I am dying to do an action film.
