Ex-SIMI activist opens fire at police, Hyderabad on alert
by Dr MVR Prasad on 2008-12-04 14:52:52.169578+05:30 It is a pity that the terrorist was allowed to escape. Of course, this is not the first episode of this nature. The incident speaks volumes about the the way our ruling establishment is so casual about the dreaded problem and the manner in which our police are ill-equipped to deal with the situation. It is unfortunate that the poor and ill-equipped, but sincere police personnel always become the casualty. I don't know as to when our leaders are going to wake up to deal with the matter seriously in the larger national interest. It is an open secret that Hyderabad is loaded with SIMI and ISI activists. It is shameful that one of the Ministers of the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet went all the way to pay a courtesy call to a confirmed and convicted Islamic terrorist. It is high time that our leaders stopped playing vote-bank politics and looked at the larger interest of the society and the nation.

SIMI
by G. Gidwani on 2008-12-03 20:14:18.50311+05:30 So, they had him "surrounded" but he shot a cop and then got away. Sounds like a familiar story. At the train station in Mumbai the cops, armed with rifles, were hiding like cowards while the terrorists shot our citizens with impunity. One of theses days I would like to read that the Indian police actually captured a terrorist instead of running away like cowards.

1 COWARDS???!!!
by NK on 2008-12-04 10:32:42.408436+05:30This is in response to the comments here which say the Mumbai policmen were cowards as they hid when the terrorists were shooting. I would want to take strong objection against such derogatory remarks. How easy it is to sit here in front of our computers and certify who's brave and who's not? Do you know the configuration of the weapons that the policeman were carrying? Does it stand any way near to those held by the terrorists? Do you know that the maximum of the policemen who died during this incident were unarmed? Just shut up if you do not have guts to stand barehanded in the way of the armed fugitives.

2 Very incorrect
by rishi on 2008-12-03 21:59:39.456758+05:30Mr. Gidwani. Please see the video available of policemen facing terrorists in CST station. They had ww-2 vintage weapons against sophisticated weapons that militants had. Even then, they held the fort. Tried to contain terrorists as much as they could. Ditto with policemen who went inside Taj hotel before NSG arrived. With vintage weapons firing 1-2 shots per round, they braved against those terrorists. Please check your facts before levelling these baseless charges. Indian police might be inefficient on a regular day, but did prove their bravery in mumbai when it was needed.

violence and vulgarity of policemen
by Gauri Ghatnekar on 2008-12-03 18:18:19.070164+05:30 dear ie, i wonder if police are now being attacked far more... everyday we hear of the death of officers like mr karkare, ashok kamte and others, who die by the motivated mujahideen. some officers are beaten by the public venting their anger on them. they are beaten because they pick up people for breaking the law and the like. i even wonder if they are properly dressed. i recently saw a constable wearing kolhapuri chappals. god forbid they are chasing someone and there is alive wire, they would be shocked on the job...as electricity travels fastest through these footwear. ideally they shoudl wear rubber chappals so that they are safe even if overhead wires break, or they accidentally step ona wet live wire. i firmly feel that superiors should look into increased violence on the police force dress them appropriately for duty and look after them if they receive burns or wounds while on duty. they require good nurses to look after them and inject them with proper medicines.

Is not it amazing. even after tip off, was there no closing of the escape routes, no additional back up? It show how competnet our police forces are to handle terrorist. or was it that some one did not want him to be arrested in the first place and a poor constable got shot Unnecessarily.

Did not u see the secularists like Amar, paswan, Arjun etc condeming the Delhi police for the encounter where one of the DP officer was killed? Police instead of trying to verify whether he was alone should start a hot pursuit and kill the terrorist if not able to capture alive. Hope sanity prevails both for the govt and Police.......

1 Apply the same standard: Crime is a crime
by sabtukalilima on 2008-12-03 17:13:46.712621+05:30You are making a mountain out of a mole hill. This is an isolated minor incident involving an individual criminal act, guys like Waqar are incapable of masterminding and manufacturing bombs and exploding them throughout the country simply because there is in -built restraints in the minority community. This sort of individual based criminal action serves no more than instilling a mementary sense of fear among the victims and some anger at large, unlike the advantages enjoyed by militant and extremist majority based fascist organisations. The majority community has free operational space, they can get the services of serving and retired military and police officials, and when caught redhanded they get the sympathy of the police or more secular minded and duty conscious officers are made to disappear. Did you not hear how Nanded, Malegaon, Kanpur and in other such bomb blasts the charges were heavily diluted. Well punish the criminals whoever they are, but please apply the same standard.

by AP on 2008-12-03 17:59:05.395582+05:30You are right! The majority community was responsible for brutalizing minority Pandits in Kashmir. The whole India watched. And surprise, unlike other minorities, the Pandits did not turn to terrorism! As far as same standard is concerned, if the legal system was biased in India, how come so many Hindus were arrested for similar acts...Malegaon blasts, Dara Singh for killing Graham Staines etc.If you are still not satisfied, migrate to Pakistan.

Why dont they come out with facts to show the world ie tapes, mobile phone conversations to prove that pakistan have their hands covered in blood. Zardari spoke to CNN make it clear to all over the world that pakistan has no hand in this. His facial expression and body language though showed what a liar he is. WAKE UP ATLEAST NOW.
