About the role that he is doing in the film, he says, “The character of Edachena Kunkan was to an extent tailor made for me. When the director Hariharan approached me with the script and offered me this role, the personality of Edachena Kunkan matched my own personality and my body language so much, that there was no question of denying the role!” The actor is also thrilled about being part of such a multi-starrer. “It’s good to have multi starcast as everyone contributes their bit in the making of this movie, thereby lessening the overall burden. We have a fabulous star cast starting from Mammootty, Kanika, Padmapriya. I couldn’t have asked for more. As a matter of fact, I am happy to be a part of this movie,” he says. This of course the first time that Sharath is acting in Malayalam, but this is not the first time he is acting with Mammootty. Years ago, when Mammootty made his debut in Tamil with the K.Madhu-directed Mounam Sammatham, Sharath was part of the cast. Says the actor, “This is my debut in Malyalam cinema. Interestingly, not many know that that Mammootty made his debut in the Tamil Cinema in which I was a part, and now, by a sheer co incidence, I am making my debut in a Mammootty starrer Malyalam magnum opus.” About working in Malayalam, a language that’s not his mother tongue, Kumar says, “The language was of course a challenge, but thanks to our scriptwriter M. T. Vasudevan, and our director Hariharan, they made it all very easy.” He also made some preparations for the movie, “Lots of preparation and passion goes into making an epic of this caliber. I learnt archery for the first time for this movie. I also did most of my stunts on my own, as I didn’t want the authenticity of the movie to go for a toss. I lifted a heavy weight character (110kgs approx!!) on my shoulder without anybody’s help!.” Kumar also says that there were scenes where he completely forgot himself and became the character he was playing. Pazhassi Raja is produced by Gokulam Gopalan and has among its highlights the grand scale at which it’s made, plus music by Illayaraja and sound engineering by Resul Pookutty.
