






Shriya Saran hops onto the Hollywood bandwagon
The latest Indian actress to have found an entry into a Hollywood production is none other than Southern siren Shriya Saran. The actress made her presence felt in with Mission Istanbul is now part of The Other End Of The Line, a Hollywood flick. Starring alongside Anupam Kher and Tara Sharma, Shriya will be seen playing the role of an India-based call centre employee who falls in love with an American client. The role of her lover will be essayed by Jesse Metcalfe of The Desperate Housewives fame. The Other End Of The Line is being produced by Ashok Amritraj and directed by James Dodson.
Persian film Panaah ready for release
The first Persian film to be shot by an Indian director, Panaah - Baroye Zinda Mondan, is all set to release in theatres. A Diana S. Films venture, the film is based on the hardships of Afghani life in recent times. Directed and edited by Sundeep Mohnot, it is based on the experiences of producer Asad Sikandar who also contributed to the film’s action sequences. The filmmakers are now gearing up for their next venture, Alone, which will also be directed by Mohnot and will be shot in Afghanistan, Bulgaria and India. Meanwhile Afghanistan’s President, His Excellency Hamig Karzai, who saw the film at a private screening, was reported to be happy with the film.
Sunil Doshi opts for animation
Bheja Fry and Mixed Doubles producer Sunil Doshi has bought distribution rights for eleven Japanese animation titles, including Nausicaa: The Valley Of The Wind, Laputa: Castle In The Sky and My Neighbour Totoro, in India. To be marketed under the brand ‘Junior’, a subsidiary of Alliance Media, the titles belong to one of Japan’s biggest production house ‘Studio Ghibli’ and have been created by Hayao Miyazaki. Targeted at the under 18-consumer group, Junior will also distribute comics, live action films, video games and other television shows apart from animation films.
