TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
What was Paul W.S. Anderson wanting to do with the remake of Roger Corman’s camp classic Death Race 2000 ? Just don’t expect an elegant bunch of cars and masterly driving on the track. Terminal Island is death row either way in the very near future. The world’s hunger for blood sport and reality competitions is insatiate, so is blood-lusting reality TV. In this scenario, the most extreme racing competition has emerged and its contestants are homicidal prisoners. They drive heavy metal juggernauts at break-neck speed and each car is quipped with arsenal. The rules are simple,Win five events and you’re set free. Lose and you’re splashed across the Internet. There is so much gore and violence that after a time you become incensed by it.
Since it's more stunts and action and not performance, the two actors Jason Statham and Tyrese Gibson fit in like a nuts and bolts. On the other hand, Ian McShane adequately reprises as the coach, so does Joan Allen as the Warden. Paul W.S. Anderson’s Death Race is all about camera work and thrills. Quite simply a film made for the outrageous action buff.
RATING
One for the camerawork, action and thrills and the other one for the sets and production.
