Maanvi Gagroo
Maanvi Gagroo, who played one of the main leads in Aamras, is all geared up for Bollywood after her debut film

Launch Vehicle
I played Rakhi Chadda, one of the leads in the film Aamras. The film is about four girls who are in 12th grade, on the verge of adulthood. It deals with their ups and downs and how eventually their friendship prevails. Raakhi is an extremely fun-loving yet a no nonsense kinda girl. With her, you get what you see. She’s blunt and outspoken but is always there for her friends. It is Raakhi who realises the true meaning of friendship and eventually gets the whole group back together.

Casting Coup
The Associate Producer for the film had spotted me in Disneys’ Dhoom Machao Dhoom and asked me to audition for the part. The rest is history.

Stepping-Stone
I started my career with Disneys’ Dhoom Machao Dhoom. I was always very active in the dramatics and dance teams of my college. I’m a trained jazz dancer. I have done two English plays and a few TV commercials. I have also done a few educational films and documentaries.

First Shot
My first shot in the film was terribly nerve wrecking. This was the first day of our first schedule in Panchgani. It was a montage shot of me arm-wrestling with a boy. I was already nervous and after the first take Rupali(my director) came and told me it was horrible. That almost brought me to tears because I didn’t know what I was doing wrong. Seeing my reaction Rupali calmed me down. She told me I looked nervous on screen and I didn’t need to be since she had full faith in me. That really did it for me and after that, I got it bang on!

Stumbling Block
Hindrances are plenty but it’s about overlooking them and moving on. I’ve always led a very cushioned and luxurious life. So staying away from family, alone in Mumbai was a big decision for me. There’s no one here to do my chores. Also for Aamras, I had to put on weight since I was essaying the role of a sardarni girl, I had to look stout, so now I’m working very hard to return and to maintain my original shape.

Lessons Learnt
Everyday you learn a new lesson but the most important thing is to love your craft. If you really like acting then it will never seem like work and you’ll never find yourself cribbing about the erratic hours and other such things. You have to be creatively motivated and the money and fame will follow.

Matinee Idol
This is not to be diplomatic but I do seek inspiration from all the female actors today. I look upto Konkona Sen Sharma for her sheer talent,

Kareena Kapoor for her dedication, Katrina Kaif for making a mark for herself in spite of being a complete outsider to the industry and so on...These are all people I look up to for different things. My wish list is long. My favourite directors are Vishal Bhardwaj, Farhan Akhtar, Anurag Basu, Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, Nagesh Kukunoor. One role that I wish I’d done was Konkona Sen Sharma’s role in 15th Park Avenue or Rani Mukerji’s in Bunty Aur Babli and Ellen Page in Juno.

Future Projects
The roles coming my way are either exactly like Raakhi or not creatively challenging both of which fail to excite me. There is however a particular project that has caught my fascination and I will talk more about it as and when things materialise. But I want to do all kinds of roles, so that by the end of it, my body of work is an eclectic collection of human characters. I want to do the jhatkas and the matkas and dance around trees. I love Bollywood for what it is and would want to blend into it completely.
