Bindass Live
Mon - Thu, 8.30 pm, UTV
Bindass Live is the latest youth-oriented live show on television. The show is issue-based and inspite of the name, which implies a degree of frivolity, takes itself very seriously. Sure, there are plenty of laughs on the show and a very (and we mean very) enthusiastic host who makes sure that the people on the show pause for breath only during the commercial breaks.

The show is hosted by the highly effervescent Malishka, better known as Malishka of Red FM. She’s the highlight of the show and she knows it. Considering that it’s a live show and that Malishka can afford to make absolutely no mistakes, she does a great job of just letting the words and jokes roll off her tongue. She certainly manages to engage the interest of the viewers and seems to enjoy a high degree of familiarity with the guests on her show, so much so that she can actually poke fun at them. All in good humour, of course.

The show is definitely fun, with a very youth-heavy quotient. It’s aimed at young people and for each episode it has a dozen boys and girls of college-going age. The format takes the form of a healthy debate on the topic of the day, with Malishka playing referee. Celebrity guests are also invited on the show to give their views. There is no animosity and everything is kept on a light and informal level.

However, the show lasts only half an hour, so that doesn’t really give much time for the debate to develop. In fact, it almost seems like the show’s producers had decided on a point of view that they support and that is the one that gets maximum air play. Also, while the host is funny and engaging, sometimes she talks a wee bit much. Maybe it’s a hangover from her RJ days. But we think a host is supposed to let the guests do most of the talking.
Verdict
Bindass Live is definitely not a bad show. It is entertaining and even informative at times. And if you want to know which way the youth of the country is listing, this should be a relevant show for you.
