Camera Action
The sprawling three acre plot in Filmcity is buzzing with activity. The shooting of the Sanjay Dutt starrer Lamhaa is in progress here. The film is about the disrupted and chaotic life in today's strife-torn Kashmir and writer-director, Rahul Dholakia wants to present it as realistically as possible. Set designer Vasik Khan has recreated parts of Srinagar and one can see the authenticity of the town in the narrow lanes, small shops and dingy houses. There's a bakery, a shop with Kashmiri handicrafts, a grocery store and several other shops and homes. There are banners in Urdu and posters of grim looking people pasted on some walls. About 500 junior artistes dressed in traditional Kashmiri clothes saunter around.

The characters are interesting. Sanjay Dutt plays a committed Military Intelligence Officer while Bipasha Basu plays a girl who has grown up with fundamentalist ideas and is on the lookout for her father's killer. Kunal Kapoor is a youth leader and Anupam Kher a pro freedom leader. As Dholakia says 'ready' into the mike, all the actors get into positions. Cameraman Jamie Fowles peers through his lens.

Day 1
Alas it's a blast!

A convoy of cars whizzes towards the town centre. Anupam Kher who is scheduled to give a speech there is seated in one of them. He looks impressive in his white flowing beard and long kurta-pyjama. Suddenly, there is a deafening blast and one car is blown apart. But Kher, who is the target has a narrow escape. There is mayhem as blood soaked bodies, are strewn around. Sanjay Dutt is also amongst the people who is thrown on the ground with the impact. Whilst the others are with blackened bodies and blood soaked pants, Sanjay is less seriously injured. Dressed in a shirt and pants with a huge scarf around his neck he walks in for the final shot and lies amongst the injured. The cameraman then captures a shot of him as he rises up and looks around dazed.

Day 2
Infighting

The junior artistes get into position. Some in the garb of Kashmiri Pandits position themselves in front of a building called Bhatt Colony. Others dressed in army uniform and shields in hand stand in a row against the Kashmiri Pandits. Those dressed as local Muslims have stones and ignited kerosene bottles in hand. The scene being picturised is one in which Kashmiri Pandits who cannot put up with the atrocities against them are leaving Kashmir. This amidst army personnel trying to shield them from agitated Muslim locals who are pelting the Pandits with stones and crude kerosene bombs. Cameraman Jamie's camera starts whining as they get into 'action'.

Day 3
Emotional drama

The location has shifted to Mukesh Mills. It's an emotional scene in a Madrassa where several children have apparently died of food poisoning. Sanjay Dutt dressed in a black commando uniform arrives at the spot. One of the kids is apparently his and he surges forward to lift him in his arms.
