Aamir Khan was in a jubilant mood at the party to celebrate the phenomenal success of Ghajini. He was warm, forthcoming and looked pleased as punch. Calling the team of Ghajini on stage, he attributed the success of the film to the whole team, particularly the unassuming director AR Murugadoss. The massive cake proudly displayed the digits 110 - for the 110 crore the film had grossed within the first few days of its release! There was Aamir’s wife Kiran Rao cheering loudly from her front seat while his leading ladies, Asin and Jiah Khan applauded their hero wildly. “Put away your cameras and pens and just chill with me today,” grinned the actor taking the media by surprise. But with Aamir in such a triumphant and genial mood, no one was willing to listen to that one and the actor was bombarded with questions. Not that he protested!
Did you expect Ghajini to capture the imagination of the audience in such a big way?
The film had an unusual subject and al of us worked very hard. I had a gut feeling that it would do well, but did not expect that it would break so many records in the first few days of its release !
What do you think clicked with the people?
The beautiful love story in the film touched hearts! Also the audience had never seen action scenes like those shown in the film.
What do you think is director Murugadoss’s forte as a director?
His passion for cinema! He made the Hindi version with the same passion he showed in the original. Not for a moment did his interest wane while making the same film the second time round!
Do you think the film could have done better if it had bigger stars than Jiah and Asin?
I could not have asked for more success than this! And I must add that both the girls have done a splendid job and contributed greatly to the film’s success!
What prompted you to make Delhi Belly which targets an international audience?
I think we can compete with Hollywood, without displeasing the Indian audience.
What did you gift Kiran on your third wedding anniversary the other day?
We don’t believe in giving each other gifts!
