His first two movies were pretty intense — My Brother Nikhil in 2005 and Bas Ek Pal a year later. Filmmaker Onir, 39, is now moving away from serious movies to have some fun. He experiments with comedy in Sorry Bhai, starring Shabana Azmi, Boman Irani, Sanjay Suri and Chitrangada Singh, who is back on screen after three years. “The idea is to explore different nuances of filmmaking,” says Onir.

The romantic comedy, which will be released on November 28, is about a middle-class family from Mumbai going to Mauritius for their elder son’s marriage. “Boman and Shabana share amazing chemistry on screen. I loved their performance in Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd and I am sure they will recreate the magic again,” smiles Onir.

After wrapping up the promotion of Sorry Bhai, he wants to start his next venture, a yet untitled Indo-German collaboration that deals with the identity crisis of marginalised communities in India. And he also plans to direct the modern version of the 1980s classic Chashme Baddoor. “The original film dealt with the ’80s. My script will be adapted for today’s audience,” he says. The fun run won’t end soon.
