Ghazal-e-Mohabbat
EMI, Rs 195
This has some of the cream of ghazal maestros from both sides of the border. The mix is lustrous if heterogenous, with songs culled from film as well as non-film sources from eras that differ by decades. Well, now that it is a competition between the cream, the effortless winners are Tumko dekha (Jagjit Singh/Saath Saath), Lata Mangeshkar (Sili hawa chhoo gayi/Libaas), Kahin kahin se har chehera (Lata-Jagjit-Asha from a stillborn Chetan Anand film score converted into an album), Tajmahal mein aa jana (Rajendra and Neena Mehta) and Badi nazuk (Jagjit again/Jogger’s Park). But it’s not that the others are less, it’s just that these are more! But a serious downer is the complete lack of credits for the creators of the 13 tracks. This is sacrilege!
