Bobby is playing the lead in ‘Ek - The Power of One’, which releases this week.A remake of a 2005 Telugu blockbuster Athadu, the Hindi version offers some slick action sequences and has been directed by veteran action filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan (of Apna Sapna Money Money fame). “I am not too fond of Telugu cinema since it has unnecessarily puerile humour. But when Sunny (Deol) made me to see the Telugu version, I was blown over,” he explains. Shot over a 72-day schedule in Mumbai, Chandigarh and Manali, the film sees Deol jumping off a 7-storey building, as a trained assassin (Nandu) who is running from the law. “Action stunts are painful to perform especially because of the dust and the silly things directors make you do for a scene. I prefer not to do my own stunts after I broke my leg in my first film,” he says, avoiding talk of comparison with his earlier role of an assassin, in ‘Bichhoo’, in 2000.
The film sees choreographed action scenes by Peter Hein (who also did stunts in the dud Tashan in 2008). Will Ek... rescue Deol in Bollywood? If not, Deol has his next move sorted with Sivan, who begins work on directing the Dharmendra and Bobby Deol-starrer Cheers, this May. “It deals with a father-son relationship and how they sort out their differences,” says Deol.
