Is skipping a neckpiece the latest trend in Bollywood?

Award ceremonies and parties are a wonderful opportunity to wear fun and creative accessories. And it is these places that give an insight to the latest fashion trends. Today colourful bracelets detailed with intricate patterns, chandelier earrings or danglers and oversized rings are the call of the day. But the once heavily accessorised necks are quickly giving way to a bare-neck look. Whether the Bollywood celeb wears a Kanjeevaram saree, a churidar-kameez, a trendy off-shoulder long dress or a striking mini, hardly anyone is seen wearing a neckpiece. Says jewellery designer and TV anchor Prachi Shah, “Jewellery, whether neckpieces or otherwise, can never go out of fashion. Only the patterns, materials and detailing keep changing. But just like black and white colours are the safest bet when going out, skipping an elaborate neckpiece is a safe bet to avoid looking overdressed.” Concedes Neha Dhupia, who was spotted wearing an attractive, full length off-shoulder gown with chandelier earrings sans any neckpiece at the Screen awards event, “The trend is not about keeping the neck bare, but not to keep it too busy. It’s either earrings and bracelet or a neckpiece. Basically the clothes should be a statement and accessories that complement it should be worn.” Minissha Lamba, who looked lovely in a burgundy outfit and intricate earrings says. “It’s about clean lines and neat dressing. For what I wore, a neckpiece would have looked too cluttered.” Concludes Prachi, “Bollywood sets its own trends and looks like bare necks are in. Soon every fashion-conscious woman is likely to follow suit.”
