You seem to be back in form suddenly after a long gloomy phase.
I was keeping a low profile since my dad had been unwell for a long time. Ever since I learnt of his ailment in 2007, I decided to be by his side and keep him happy. Now you will see a lot more of me. (Laughs)
Comedies seem to have taken a front seat. How comfortable are you with slapstick?
I am quite at ease with comedy, but I have no intention to get slotted. I signed projects that caught my interest. My comedies that have already released are No Entry, Shaadi No 1, Heyy Babyy, Darling and now All The Best - Fun Begins. This will be followed by Life Partner, Dulha Mil Gaya and Acid Factory, all from different genres. And I have done justice to all my films, however, Jai Veeru was a classic (laughs).
Is Dulha Mil Gaya complete?
Almost. I have completed my portion of dubbing and now I guess just about three days of work remains to be completed. Let me assure you that the reasons for the delay are not on my account.
What is your role in All The Best?
I play an aspiring musician, whose elder brother is Sanjay Dutt. For the role, I had to sport a trendy look complete with a tattoo of a guitar on my arm. I got some special stickers made for me that would last for four days provided I did not scrub it with a soap. It would take just about 10 seconds to fix it and it was very convenient and comfortable rather than having a real tattoo done.
Your dad wanted to remake his popular film Qurbani but his wish remained unfulfilled. Are you planning to fulfill his dream?
I first want to restart dad’s production house in full force. I plan to start Qurbani only next year. It is a difficult film to remake, so I have to aim to take it to another level. First, I have to look for a director who is passionate enough about the project. The script has to be revised to give it a contemporary feel.
Are you ready to turn producer and take on the responsibility?
I have to carry forward the tradition. It is a difficult task but I have to do it someday.
Have you finalised the characters as yet?
Nothing has been finalised. I have to first start work on the script.
So, are you keen to take up direction?
When I will find my calling, I will go for it (laughs). However, I am eagerly waiting for that to happen.
You are known to be fashion-conscious. What do you have to say about it?
It is nice to know that people say that. I love to dress up and black is my favourite colour. My wardrobe is full of blacks that my wife Natasha is tired of it. She too likes to keep up with the fashion world.
