Cinematographer-director K.V. Anand, who had earlier given us Kana Kandein, now teams up with Suriya to give us a total action flick in Ayan. Deva (Suriya), a young guy with enough of educational background and technical expertise. Deva works as a carrier for a smuggler Das (Prabhu), who is in fact a friend of his late father and a father-like figure to him. They smuggle CDs, diamonds and gold from abroad and have a competitor in Kamlesh (Akashdeep Saigal), who anyhow is not a straight guy. Das and Deva anyhow have their own ethics and never indulge in smuggling drugs. In the meantime a young man named Chitti (Jagan) joins Das’ gang. Very soon Chitti becomes Deva’s friend. Chitti’s sister Yamuna (Tamannaah) and Deva soon get drawn to each other and fall in love. The ingredients would appeal to die-hard fans of Suriya flicks.
Technical Expertise
Ayan is strictly for action-buffs and is a well-made film. Suriya is excellent as Deva and excels in action sequences and also in the song and dance routine. Tamannaah renders able support as Yamuna. Prabhu as Das is good while Renuka, as is Deva’s mother. The others do justice to their respective roles. The music, songs, dances et al suit the mood and tempo of a Suriya action flick. Cinematography by M.S.Prabhu is first-rate. The stunt sequences have been excellently choreographed. The film, in total, is a treat for lovers of action flicks, with sufficient dosage of romance, songs and bits of sentiments too.
Verdict
Three stars, for Suriya, for direction and the excellent cinematography.
