Actor Arun Govil, who is till Friday was remembered for his small screen avatar as lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar's hugely popular serial Ramayan said on Friday that he has turned to spirituality and has almost given up acting.

Talking to reporters in Mumbai, Govil said he has started a television production company with Sunil Lahiri who had played Lakshman in the serial telecast on Doordarshan more than two decades ago.

"Our first production Happy Home, a sitcom based on senior citizens, is doing well on DD's national network. It is doing well in terms of revenue generation for our company and TRPs," he said.

However, spiritualism is his priority, Govil said. "I am deeply associated with Delhi-based spiritual guru Brahmarishi Srikumar Swami. He is into social work and ayurveda and I help organise the programmes which take place mostly in North India".

Speaking about remakes of mythological epics Ramayan and Mahabharat, Govil said he was of the opinion that remakes of classics should not be attempted. "Even B R films attempted Ramayan a few years ago but it did not work."

"Technology may have advanced and more money goes into production of television content. But will the remake have a soul?" he asked.
