6 resident DJs
by Priya Mattoo on 2009-08-28 13:05:16.623151+05:30 what is this nonsense, aside from all the other things pointed out by readers? 6 resident DJs: what are they going to do, live in the LAP restaurant. This is a sick joke.

Paintings of Indian royalty on the walls and knick knacks from our regal past
by Rudra Mole on 2009-08-28 09:30:43.486955+05:30 We just can't get away from our Raja Maharaja past. This was disastrous period of Indian history, but we need to glorify it and think of ourselves as the new Rajas and Maharajas.

Since when did shawarma become gourmet food???
by Ram Pandit on 2009-08-28 09:25:12.540742+05:30 Since when did shawarma become gourmet food??? Don't insult the people in the middle-east? It tastes good but it is quintessential street food, like our "wada pav" in Mumbai or "pani puri" in Delhi. Hardly a gourmet dish. Eating shawarma sitting under a chrystal chandelier! This seems to be a very bizarre concept restaurant! Very strange new place.

If he's going to use DJ's to play recorded music, where's the talent?
by Rodrigo Fernandez on 2009-08-28 09:12:38.544124+05:30 If he's going to use DJ's to play recorded music, where's the talent? Or are the DJ's supposed to be talented in playing someone else's (Cold Play?) recorded music. Do you plan to pay royalities to the bands whose music you play? You're supposed to or don't you know that. If you're going to have live music, why do you need DJ's or why are you calling them DJs. Shows you know nothing about what you are doing or what you are talking about.

the menu sounds atrocious but I guess no one's going there for the food so it shouldn't matter!
by Ritu Mehra on 2009-08-28 08:59:35.256663+05:30 Other than putting in his black money from films and picking out some Swarovsky pieces (don't need much imagination to do that) what is his contribution? He roped in the usual comic personalities like King Kong's wife(oh, excuse me King Khan), Bal,Tahiliani character, etc. all of whom are more famous than talented and off to make money we go. By the way, the menu sounds atrocious but I guess no one's going there for the food so it shouldn't matter!

Rampal is making Delhi safer by keeping his rich, crass, boorish friends away from rest of decent society
by Arti Puri on 2009-08-28 08:46:40.116126+05:30 Sounds like this restaurant will attract the crass, rich, uncouth, boorish, loud Delhi crowd that makes a nuisance of themselves. This will then mean that these people will not be at other restaurants and places where decent people and families like to go. Rampal is doing a public service by keeping his friends away from the rest of Delhi. Give him a Padma Shree for service to society. He could also use the Padma Shree to promote his restaurant further. It will be a win-win for everybody. PS: Thank you Rampal, hope your restaurant does better than your acting career. Will Shiney be invited? He would fit right in at this place? But you may have to wait a while before you can welcome him as a honoured guest. How about Mr. BMW Nanda? Will he need a reservation or can he walk-in any time? Pls. instruct the darbaan accordingly.

Sounds like something out of a Bollywood flick
by Maggie Adams on 2009-08-28 07:29:48.011766+05:30 AD Singh sounds like a villain character out of a Bollywood flick. I will be visiting India in Dec. and would like to eat here, just for the experience of seeing rich Indians making fools of themselves. I've seen plenty of that in London but it'll be fun to see it first hand in India! I can visualize a "cabaret" dance and someone pretending to play the piano, while others get drunk after their first drink and hit on other women, while their wives watch! Can't wait to go to LAP and write about it as a part of my travel journal. As a "foreigner" I know that I will be treated royally while other Indians will be turned away. All this is deeply sad at a certain level.

LAP sounds like a seedy restaurant people would go for lap dances!
by Amrita Singh on 2009-08-28 06:48:55.625703+05:30 What a ridiculous name! LAP!! Sounds like a seedy bar where sickos go for lap dances. This is the new India, people less and less know the difference between good and bad taste. A restaurant with this name, anywhere in the west, would not be considered respectable and would have to be located in the seedy part of town. In India it will be considred classy! Jai Ho India.

by COL NIRMAL MAHAJAN, EME on 2009-08-27 12:44:28.529843+05:30 LAP, lounge-bar-restaurant, is set to open at Hotel Samrat on September 1.It has Delhi-based restaurateur AD Singh as Rampal’s partner. This new addition will be welcomed by Delhites..Earlier only the rich and famous frequented eating joints...no longer...now one and all love to eat out as most of ladies are no longer confined to the four walls of house,,,they are also working AND EARNING so no shortage of cash in hand...Here is wishing Rampal all the very beat.....hope he maintains the standards in future and gives the clients VALUE FOR MONEY

1 This is not a VALUE for Money restaurant!! Colonel, go have another drink and think about it when you are sober
by Priya Vohra on 2009-08-28 07:19:24.64921+05:30Colonel Mahajan, EME, you should be giving your expert comments on national security issues not about some restaurant you know nothing about. Is this being promoted as a VALUE FOR MONEY restaurant or as a destination restaurant for the rich and famous? Why comment on things you know nothing about and use words when you don't know what they mean? How about the the story about India's nuclear capability being over rated after the 98 explosions. Why not provide your expert comments on that? Take it easy Colonel, have a drink and think about it when you are sober. Still getting those canteen discounts? Don't feel bad Colonel, as an army man's wife (higher rank than you), I had to point this out to you.

2 Why are you promoting this fellow's restaurant?
by Gitanjali Subramanian on 2009-08-28 06:44:06.377884+05:30Thank you Colonel for the PR comment. It hasn't opened yet so you couldn't have eaten there! Have you invested in this fellow's restaurant or just hoping for a free meal in future from this actor fellow? Pls. explain your connection with this fellow and this AD Singh character (very suspicious sounding fellow). Names like this are usually associated with scoundrels, in my experience.

1 Ha!
by P on 2009-08-27 14:18:23.336899+05:30Its clear it is meant for the rich and exclusive,'artsy' people - when he says by invitation only. We are too dense to get that and praise the venture calling it Value for Money? Why would he decorate the place with Swarovsky crystals if the place was open for all and sundry? Its a seperate 'class-only' get togther place for people who belong. Not for you and may, Colonell-ji
