Music composer Avadhoot Gupte recorded a lavani in the voice of Vaishali Samant, who gained immense popularity after she rendered the famous song Aika dajiba. “The lyrics are very authentic and acoustic instruments have been used for the song,” says the producer.
Talking about her ambitious project, Kishori says it is a multi-star film and that it was on her request that her husband Deepak Vij decided to direct the film. “He also had some time to spare before the release of our Hindi film Malik Ek. So I asked him to give me one month to shoot Aika Dajiba,” she laughs.
Talking about the film, she says it is a romantic-comedy wherein she plays Ashok Saraf’s wife. The basic theme is how Maharashtra has begun accepting non-Maharashtrians in their fold. The shooting starts from November 1 in Mumbai’s Kamalistan Studios and villages around Pune like Kolvan, Dongarpur and Naogaon. Though based in the village, it has a modern touch. About the title, she laughs, “Dajiba means jijaji (brother-in-law). The two sisters (Priya Bapat and Mukta Barve) are always teasing their jijaji.”
Her first production in Hindi, Malik Ek, has Jackie Shroff playing the role of Shirdi Sai Baba. Hasn’t the film been in the making for a long time? “The shooting for the film started much later after it was launched one-and-a-half year back,” she replies. “It was the press who kept saying that the release has been delayed. Now that it is ready we are waiting for a good date to release it, as there have been a lot of films hitting the screens lately.” She also adds that since it is not a time-bound film, there is no harm in waiting for some more months to get a good space for release. The film also stars Smriti Irani, Divya Dutta, Rajeshwari Sachdeva, Zarina Wahab, Vidya Sinha, Parikshit Sahni, Shakti Kapoor and Govind Namdeo with Kishori playing a vital role. It has music by Anup Jalota and songs sung by Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udhas and Jalota himself.
Kishori made her directorial debut with Mohatyachi Renuka which she also produced. “The film won the Maharashtra State award for editing,” she says proudly.
Right now, Kishori and Deepak are busy with Aika Dajiba which they plan to release in February. The film is presented byKiah Diamond Jewellery.
