Bollywood actor Feroz Khan, who made a place in the hearts of film lovers with his romantic portrayals in blockbusters like 'Qurbani' and 'Janbaaz,' died after battling cancer for a year.

The 69-year-old actor-filmmaker died at 1:30 am at his farmhouse here. He was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and was being treated at a Mumbai hospital.

His son and actor Fardeen Khan besides some other family members were at his bedside when the end came.

The actor's mortal remains would be buried at his farm house later in the day as per his last wishes Born and brought up in Bangalore, the Bollywood actor first made his mark in 1965 when his film 'Oonche Log' clicked with the audience. He then went on to woo the audience with the mushy musical 'Arzoo' where he played a sacrificing lover.

But the biggest hit of his career was 'Qurbani' opposite Zeenat Aman.

In 1986, he directed and starred in 'Janbaaz' which was a box office hit. After he directed and starred in 'Yalghaar' in 1992, the charismatic actor took a long break from acting and took to producing and directing films.

The Original Khan by Mike Vig on 2009-04-28 07:04:02.029977+05:30 This is tragic. Its even more so for his family, especially his son whom he had nurtured to become a man in the dog-eat-dog world of Bollywood. Feroz Khan was always known for his good taste and flamboyant lifestyle but his recent appearance in Pakistan was the highlight of his career. Putting Pakistanis in the right place where our politicians failed during the last 60 plus years would be welcomed by all those Indians who love self respect.

A HERO TO REMEMBER by Jafar Zaidi on 2009-04-27 22:31:29.528293+05:30 Dear Editor,In many films in which he played supporting roles, he over shadowed the heros. His passion of car races was also reflected in his films. He introduced digitial music and 'Ap jaisa koi meri zindagi me aaye' sung by Nazia Hasan was a super hit at that time. May his soul rest in piece.Regards,Jafar Zaidi

We his fans will always remember him for the way he portrayed the best values of human society and the respect for the downtrodden he portrayed in his films! His performance in "Qurbani" was superlative. We Indians will surely miss him as will his fans in the rest of the world. We would follow him if we could if only to see more of him! He is now part of that great screen in the universe....for eternity!May his soul rest in peace! India is poorer in his passing away from the scene here!

A courageous Indian - Firoz Khan by Naim Naqvi on 2009-04-27 12:01:40.030527+05:30 Firoz Khan was a Shia Muslim by birth. But it was only his identity. He was one of the true secular, courageous, colorful, vivacious, inventive and creative person who was an embodiment of love, the true divine love in Sufi spirit. He was the person who was undaunted and had challenged Pakistan on its own soil. His statement about Pakistan's poor records on humanitarian ground distinguishes him from Advani Ji and Dilip Kumar. They both went to Pakistan and lost their bearings. The Loh Purush Advani Ji was manipulated by deep hospitality and emotionally blackmailed in Pakistan and he accorded the highest honor of SECULAR CREDENTIALS to Mr. Jinnah and the later felt the award of HILAL-E-PAKISTAN as the realization of his life long achievements. We are proud of you Firoz Khan as a great Indian. You were born in a certain religion but your biggest religion was INDIA.

Feroz Khan by Vaid S C K on 2009-04-27 10:37:45.488813+05:30 Feroz Khan's news of his demise is very sad and tragic. He shall be remembered for not only excellent romantic acting but for his free and frank comments he made in Pakistan. He was bold enough to criticize Pakistan during one of his visit for throttling freedom of their countrymen when compared to India.

Do not disrespect him by John on 2009-04-27 10:35:10.958393+05:30 It is quite sad to know that such a great actor of Bollywood is no more. But do not disrespect the departed soul by tagging him only as a Muslim personality as if he was nothing else. He was a great Indian film actor who was respected and loved by many Indians of all religions.

Cow-Boy of Bollywood by SB on 2009-04-27 10:24:36.640778+05:30 ..one thing i would like to add about him here. He was a real Gentlemen who ALWAYS did justice with the co-actor and use to give EQUALLY STRONG role for the side-actor or villian (eg Vinod Khanna in Qurbani and Dayawan etc). Likely he ALWAYS had one SILENT background song in his movies (eg Hum tumhein chahte hain aise in Qurbani
