It is a dream debut for me. Yash Raj Films with Shimit Amin as the director and Ranbir Kapoor as my co-star, what else could I have asked for? I play Ranbir’s love interest in the film and that is all I can reveal at this point of time. It is a very challenging and performance-oriented role so I am just looking forward to the release of the film.
Casting Coup
I had told my mom sometime ago that I wanted to work with Yash Raj Films. I didn’t know it would actually come true. After theatre, films were just something towards which I thought of graduating to. I got a lot of calls from producers, so I decided to try my luck. I am a movie buff and I decided that this is what I want to do. Today, the movies that are being made are really awesome and I am proud to be here. I had met Aditya Chopra sometime ago for a few other projects that eventually never materialised. I was in constant touch with Yash Raj so when they thought of casting a new face, they called me for an audition and chose me. Shimit was very sure as he thought I fitted the bill.
Stepping-Stone
I have done theatre for quite sometime. I have also done a few acting courses and am still continuing with my Hindi diction classes. I have two teachers each for my Hindi classes and my dance classes. I have acted and produced in a play, Unspoken Dialogues. I have also done a couple of commercials, the latest one being a jewellery brand.
First Shot
It wasn’t like I was nervous because I had a fair idea of what it felt like to be in front of the arc- lights. My commercials gave me the exposure that I needed. Shimit knew what he wanted from me, so I had to exactly deliver that, which was a little difficult.
Stumbling Block
There are a lot of people I have met who think that I have got it easy. It frustrates me when people think like that because frankly I have worked my way to reach where I am. I have gone through my share of struggle. I have gone for a lot of auditions and have just been treated like everybody else. I got rejected a lot of times and at times, things didn’t work out for whatever reasons. Those films came and went and I am glad I wasn’t a part of them. Everything happens for the best.
Lessons Learnt
Back then, I would get upset when I would be rejected at auditions. Now when those films have released, I am thanking my stars for not having done those films. I have realised that whatever happens, happens for a reason. You should not get upset if something doesn’t work in your favour, there are better things in store. Always look forward to life and move on.
Matinee Idol
I have always admired Shah Rukh Khan and I am dying to work with him. I remember going to watch Chak De! India with my dad. It was such a brilliant film and my dad, who does not watch too many films, got up to cheer when the film ended. I remember my father telling me to watch out for Shimit and now it is almost like a dream come true for me to be working with him in my first film.
Future Projects
I am on a contract with Yash Raj Films and will start signing new films shortly. Obviously, people are interested in casting me but I want to take it slow. I want to really make the right choices and choose the right films because that is how Bollywood works. You have to make your moves wisely!
