Concept
Exhausted
Saturday, 7 pm, Channel [V]
Channel [V] recently revamped itself and introduced five new shows catering to the youth, Exhausted being one of them. An external production house, Endemol has been roped in for the first time to produce a show on Channel V. The tagline of the show is India’s extreme reality game show, where extremely sleep-deprived contestants are made to perform tasks after 48 hours. Eight enthusiastic bunch of contestants from diverse backgrounds are introduced in each episode. They have to do all the tasks assigned to them but there is just one condition. Nobody can sleep for two days and anybody who falls asleep is at the risk of elimination. The contestants have to stay awake for 48 whole hours and the one who survives the ordeal emerges winner.

The first 24 hours in the house are chilled out. The contestants are locked together in a room where they are getting to know each other. This is where they gang up and start plotting against each other. A nap-zapper is attached to each participant, which gives a mild shock to everyone even if one of the contestants dozes off. The first round, Hangman, puts to test the contestants physical abilities. The second round, Out Of Focus, has some cheerleaders perfrom their act and any contestant who matches up to them wins the round. The third round, Lights Out is the most interesting of the four. Contestants are given soothing, aromatic bubble-baths and all lights in the room are put off to create a calm ambience. Whichever contestant dozes off is in danger of being eliminated. After the bubble-baths, the participants are taken to perform the final stunt in the Final Nightmare Round.

Though the show puts the contestants endurance levels to test, it does not manage to grasp the audience attention. The connect that rival show Roadies has is missing. Though some of the tasks are innovative, it does get repetitive towards the end. The format is exciting but could have executed in a much better way.
Verdict :
Watch if you have nothing more exciting to catch up on a Sunday evening.
