Aap Ki Antara
Monday - Friday, 8.30 pm, Zee TV

Of late, every channel is going in by a revamp mode. Zee TV too has taken a cue and introduced a new line-up of shows. Aap Ki Antara is one such effort that aims to boost the channel’s viewership. The serial, which is produced by Drishant Productions, tells the tale of an autistic child who loses her mother in a mishap and how she tries to come to terms with life.

Antara (Zaina Vastani) is born to Aditya (Darshan) and Anuradha (Rupali Ganguly) outside wedlock. Aditya, who is now married to Vidya (Prabhleen Sandhu), receives a call one day informing him about Anuradha’s death. It’s then that he comes to know about Antara and is faced with the dilemma about how to inform Vidya about her. He somehow manages to convince her and Antara gets a new family.

Earlier, the serial had a brush with controversy when the parents of its central character, Antara (Apple Reetoria Rishi was to essay the role) complained about inhuman working conditions on the sets.
At first instance, the serial does seem to be inspired by Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par as this too deals with the issue of a special child. But the similarity ends there.
The actors do justice to their characters, with special credit to Zaina for essaying the child’s role. But what seems to mar interest is the pace of the serial. It seems to be terribly slow at times; some fine editing should do the trick.
Verdict:
Just like other serials on themes that revolve around children, this too will draw initial eyeballs. How long the producers are able to retain viewer’s interest will depend on the story that unfolds.
