Can you ever be Bani, since the audience associates the character with Prachi Desai?
I think it’s too early to comment on that. The first four episodes have just been aired and I have drawn a favourable response. We have to wait and watch.
But actors often find it difficult to step into someone else’s shoes in popular television shows.
I have no apprehensions. I am Prachi’s senior in the television industry and I too will draw appreciation. I have had my fair share of shows that were popular. People will love me too.
You had cut down on work after marriage (to Arjun Punj). Are you looking at reviving your career?
I took a break after marriage. But now that I am back, I am completely focussed about a serious career. But that again depends on how things work out in my personal life. But at present I can’t work on any more shows since shooting for Kasamh Se is taking up almost 25 days of a month.
Is your husband supporting your career move?
Family support is very important, particularly for television actors who have to go through long shooting hours that can even stretch through the night. My family encouraged me when I acted in Sanjeevani. Now I have a new family that is equally supportive.
How has your experience with Balaji Telefilms been?
They have been very kind with me. The offer for Kasamh Se came long back but I took a while to decide, thinking about the pros and cons of acting in television shows after marriage. But they waited for me. I wanted to work with Balaji for the past six years since they are the biggest in the industry.
Will you consider acting in films, if you get offers post- Kasamh Se?
I received film offers since Sanjeevani but I was never interested. Family is my priority and I am not open to travelling and spending days away from home, which is a must for movies.
