Kannayya (Prakash Raj), showy aspiring actor thrown out by his landlord shares the room with a straightforward, struggling assistant director Saravanan (Prithviraj). Saravanan is about to make his debut with a script that he wrote. Kannayya steals the story and registers it in his name and approaches a producer (Sarath Babu) on condition that he would be the hero. The director (Prathap Pothen) tries to convince Kannayya that since it is a youth subject they should go for a young actor. But the middle-aged Kannayya is adamant. He appoints a manager Ramgopal Sharma (M. S. Bhaskar) and assumes a screen name as Dilip Kanth. By a quirk of events, Saravanan marries an actress Mythili (Gopika). When Saravanan approaches a heroine (Trisha in a guest appearance) to act in his film, she tells him that Dilip Kanth’s film has similar storyline. Saravanan realises that Kannayya has stolen his story. The film turns a runaway hit and Dilip Kanth is now a sought-after hero. A dejected Saravanan tries other means to live. Mythili thinks that it is all because of her and leaves him. The producer finds Saravanan all alone cribbing at his woes. He assures Saravanan that he will make a film for him provided he takes Dilip Kanth as the hero. Saravanan agrees and despite the insults heaped on him by Dilip Kanth who stops the shoot at the climax stage, cleverly completes it using him thus teaching the arrogant hero a lesson of his life.

Technical expertise
Comparisons are inevitable since the film is a remake of the Malayalam hit, Udayananu Tharam. Instead of faithfully following the proven script, he bringz in some changes that slackenthe proceedings in the second half. But the way he has depicted the behind-the-scene happenings and the way he takes potshots at the film industry through crisp dialogue is laudable. Cinematographers K.V. Guhan and Panneerselvam create the right mood from the start. All credit to Prakash Raj for his effortless acting as cunning Kannayya, an aspiring actor and as the all-pervading superstar. Prithviraj has underplayed his role as per the demands of the script. Gopika as the ill-treated woman at home and as the heartthrob actress is adequate. M.S. Bhaskar proved that he is versatile in whatever role given to him . Lakhmi Rai makes a cameo appearance as a film star.
Verdict:
One star for Prakash Raj and one star for Prithviraj and Gopika and the third for Viji’s crisp dialogue.
