Sarika’s career seems to have come full circle. She entered the film industry as a child actor in the 1960s and now in her latest project Tahaan, she is cast opposite a child star who is searching for a purpose in life.

Sarika plays the mom. “I play a half widow. A Kashmiri woman who is still waiting for her husband to return,” says the light-eyed actor on a visit to Delhi.

Acting opposite child star Purav Bhandare, Sarika hastens to clarify, “Please don’t call them child stars. They are co-stars and are equal on the set”.

Coincidently, her upcoming release Hari Putter-A comedy of Errors, also has two child actors. Her daughter Shruti Hassan, 21, is also about to make a debut in Bollywood, but Sarika is cautious about commenting. “I support her, but we will talk about her when the time is right,” she says nervously. With those genes, there is no room for doubt.
