Chandni Chowk To China’s oriental shooting experience
Inspired by Akshay Kumar’s life, the film Chandni Chowk To China (CCTC) will take Indian audiences from the congested lanes of Chandni Chowk in Delhi to the oriental landscape of China. The film is produced by Rohan Sippy and directed by Nikhil Advani. CCTC is currently in the post-production stage and is slated for a Diwali release. According to the makers, 90 percent of the film was shot in China and Bangkok.
Rohan Sippy revealed that shooting in China was nothing like a walk in the park. “To start shooting in China, one needs to complete a lot of paperwork. I first visited China in November 2006 and could only start shooting 15 months later in early 2008,” said Sippy.
Sippy also revealed that China’s eclectic mix of locations; both modern and old make it a fascinating place to work with. For CCTC, the makers took only a part of their crew from India. The rest were Chinese and a translator was hired to bridge the language barriers.
The film was shot at the Great Wall and at a replica of the legendary Forbidden City in Shanghai. “Our schedule at these two locations was three weeks long and as it turned out, China was much cheaper than shooting in Europe but a little more expensive than Bangkok,” mentioned Sippy.
