NDTV Good Times, the lifestyle channel from NDTV’s roster of TV channels, has lined up some new shows for summer 2008. The channel was recently launched and slated as India’s first lifestyle channel. The same TV segment was earlier dominated by international players like Discovery Travel & Living and Indian channels like Zoom and others. Unlike other before it, NDTV Good Times offered an initiative in presenting shows exclusively for the lifestyle viewers.

As Smeeta Chakrabarti, CEO, NDTV Lifestyle put it, “NDTV Good Times has covered every aspect of the lifestyle genre to portray the essence of an increasingly global India. Since our inception on TV airwaves our market share in the lifestyle TV segment has grown to 40 per cent.”

In a bid to extend that, the channel has launched two new shows. One is Limited Edition, a show that will feature the world’s best luxury products and brands, which will be hosted by Perizaad Zorabian. And the other is Free Fall that will feature globe trekker and adventure junkie Neha Dixit out on the look out for dare devilry amidst exotic locales.

Shibani Sharma Khanna, Channel Head, NDTV Good Times said, “Our new line up of shows this summer is fresh and fun. Through the channel, our aim is to give viewers more of what they are seeking a good time!” Speaking on the same Smeeta Chakrabarti revealed “The new shows provide today’s discerning audience what they want, and how they want it. Some good old fun and exhilaration.”

The channel was result of a tie-up between NDTV and UB Group’s brand Kingfisher. And it seems Vijay Mallya’s, owner of Kingfisher, flair for jazz is showing on NDTV Good Times too. The channel has added to its celebrity base by adding Perizaad to the roster that already contained Rajat Kapoor.

As for their existing successful shows, Good Times has decided to feature new seasons of shows like Lounge, Highway On My Plate and In High Spirits.

On the face of it, NDTV’s summer line up looks to be formulated on a three point strategy. One is to add more adventure, second is to extend the tested, tried and successful shows and the final is too up the glam quotient by adding more celebrity appeal. Let’s hope the additional spice and jazz will help the channel get through the summer heat.
