Creative Quotient
Inspired by the novelty of previous Pakistani release, Khuda Kay Liye, you may be mistakenly drawn to this block-buster released four years ago in 2004. You are forewarned that this film isn’t a cinematic experience that an astute cinegoer will like to suffer. It is a completely formulaeic masala film, wherein the naive collegian hero is framed and sent to jail. His doting abba succumbs to the shock while his ammi turns a raving lunatic! And the hero with bulging biceps now turns to a rival gangster to avenge all the wrong-doings of the villain called Jibran! Bald like Shakaal, rasping like Naseeruddin Shah, he splashes acid on his unfaithful moll. To make matters worse, the hero’s sweetheart is married off to a police officer investigating his mafia links. The plot is further damaged by political intrigue and mafia involvement. The writer is clearly inspired by the Bollywood of yore. But the dated look gets wearisome.

Technical Expertise
Surprisingly the songs have a parade of scantily-clad female dancers, and even the heroines’ - Zara’s and Meera’s - cleavages and mid-riffs are on ample display. And what’s more, even the hero drops his shirt all through. Actors Zara, Meera and Gul ham ad nauseum. The shots are too posey - like the bylane chase, the rain-song and the moll’s seduction number and the rival-gang’s meet at a railway platform. Cinematographer Raja Kaygee does a shoddy job and likewise choreographer Pony Verma. Pakistani exhibitors are advised not to release hand-me-downs here. The Indian viewer is much too mature and evolved to swallow shallow stuff.

Verdict
A solo star for a few impressive lines. Otherwise entirely a wasted effort.
