Over the years, film enthusiasts have taken up acting as a career for fame, money or passion. But amongst thousands of them, only a handful few have marked their presence and made their efforts count. Mukul Nag is one such lover of this art.

To his achievements is Taimoor or Balak, a play he directed, acted and organised at a tender age of 12. But what really catapulated him to fame was his role as Sai Baba in Sabka Malik Ek Hai.

Sharing his experiences of playing Sai Baba, the 47 year old actor asserts, "It is incredible to play a character that is miraculous. I tried to be more modest and generous and this effort not only drove me to act well but also helped me to quit many bad habits and changed me forever."

The whole experience of Sai Baba was gripping for Nag as people started to revere him, leading many times to some embarrassing situations, "I was in Faridabad for a stage performance. There were around 1.5 lakh devotees who had come to see the play. While getting down from the stage some of them held my feet and hands so firmly, that I had red marks on my body, "he says.

The NSD graduate, has also worked with leading filmmakers of Bollywood in films like Company, Satta, Apharan, Mast and Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Ma. When asked about the offbeat roles he did in films, he said, "I never distinguish cinema on the basis of mainstream or offbeat. But yes, I always enjoy working with leading directors of the industry."

Attached to theatre since childhood, Nag is trying to uplift the Indian theatre industry through his own work. He considers Marathi theatre an ideal medium and believes that theatre should be commercialised to provide employment to many people. Engage him into trivia to choose between films and theatre and he quips, "I enjoy doing both equally. But theatre gives me more satisfaction."

The actor is currently in Pune to perform a two and a half hour light and sound play based on Sai Baba at Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch on May 14. The show has been organised by Punyadham Ashram of Vishwa Jagriti Mission Trust.
