Two key figures of the film industry described piracy as the ‘greatest concern’ of Bollywood but differed on measures to be adopted to check it.

While Bollywood actor-director, Aamir Khan wants more measures to check piracy, acclaimed director, Shekhar Kapur favoured a freedom from Intellectual Property Right.

Aamir, whose latest film Tare Zameen Par was a box office hit, said, piracy is the ‘greatest concern’ facing the entertainment industry.

"The greatest concern facing us (entertainment industry) is piracy. It is sad that India is not doing enough to check piracy," he said.

"We have been aware of this problem for long but we have not done anything much to keep it in check. A lot of time and money is spent into making a film" said Aamir.

CEO, Hyde Park Entertainment and Hollywood producer, Ashok Amritraj, who also spoke at the event said, "Pirates are the biggest threat to the growing industry and they should be crushed".

It is just economics and nothing else... by Shiva Gopalakrishnan on 2008-03-16 12:20:06.878837+05:30 Priacy is a combination of a lot of things. I for one, enjoy the thrill in going to a movie hall and seeing grand movies like Lagaa, TZP, Jodha Akbar to name a few. You have got to make these movie halls affordable to the general community also, there needs to be a cap on the price for the sale of audio/video discs. Consider a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids. Somewhere in europe I would spend around 25-40 euros depending on the show I want to go. and the cost of a dvd is around the same price for me to own it. In India it costs me around 600-800 Rs. and the cost of the dvd is around 400 for the original and about 100 or less for a Moser Baer DVD. Now how can you get the masses to the movie halls...Obviously in the areas where MB is not available the priacy thrives...
