After taking over as the chairman of National Film Development Corporation Limited (NFDC), actor Om Puri plans to introduce the concept called, ‘Cooperatives.’ Under this concept, an arrangement will be made between the production house, the cast of the film and NFDC to share the profit after the film release on their actual cost basis.

Puri who has been appointed as the chairman of NFDC by the Government of India told the Press, “The idea behind this concept (Cooperatives) is to give boost to film makers with experiental and viable scripts but limited budgets. It will help procuring prominent talents for small budget films.”

Talking about his initiatives during his tenure for three years at NFDC, Puri said he will scout for new talent in all departments of film making.” We shall organise various workshops to promote script writing and screen play,” he said adding that he wants to take Indian film industry to a global platform.

One more responsbility that Puri has to shoulder is to check the viability and compatibility of the projects undertaken by NFDC. “ Also, marketing plays an important role, so we will also see to it that our films use contemporary and tailor-made marketing strategies to make them reach to all our discerning audiences,” added Puri.

Meanwhile, it may be recalled that secretary in the ministry of information and broadcasting (I&B) Asha Swaroop has recently told mediapersons while inaugurating the three-day FICCI-FRAMES 2008 that steps were being taken to enhance government equity participation in NFDC. She had also said that the government may also provide the organisation a composite fund so that it can finance films.

However, Nina Lath Gupta, managing director NFDC said, “The amount allocated by the government for production of documentary and short film is approximately 30 crore. The amount that has already been sanctioned by the government will reach us soon.”
