Been there!

Creative Quotient
The only difference being that the don is gunned down in this case and a struggling actor played by Ranvir Shorey is made to take his place by rival gangster, Naseeeruddin Shah. While being readied to take his post as the don, Ranvir is held captive and serviced by Nasser’s moll - Neha Dhupia. Using comedy as a backdrop, the plot thickens when the duplicate don suffers from amnesia after a fall from a lofty building. Don is now on his own and he’s vulnerable. Though don’s new and humanised avtaar is much to his wife Iravati Harshe’s liking, the rival gang that planted him isn’t too happy about his loss of memory. The plot unravels slowly and shakily. It lacks the punch.

Technical Expertise
Although Kapoor and Shukla have picked up a hackneyed plot, Kapoor manages to impart requisite directorial sleekness to this thriller in a lighter vein. Filmed smartly, compiled neatly, it is a good production. But the progression of the narrative lacks the element of novelty or suspense and so it is unable to hold the attention of the viewer. Ranvir’s spirited act, Neha’s Garboesque panache, Iravati’s raw appeal and Naseer’s suave villainy is wasted in a loosely scripted venture. Better edit on the scripting stages next time, please!

Verdict
Director Rajat Kapoor’s sleek takes, Ranvir’s spirited struggler act and Neha and Iravati’s alluring characters jointly rake in three stars.
