He came, he sang and he conquered hearts. This line suits the occasion perfectly. As soon as Mika Singh and his band of Out of Control Punjabis climbed up on the stage the entire mass of audience was put under a spell. Mika, our very own Punjab da munda was in Pune to perform, on Sunday, at Gatecrash the grand finale of The Indian Express youth festival Idea Verve 2008.

"I love live performances. The effort behind them is a lot but then what gives you a high is the immediate response from the crowd," he gets going. "Music is in my blood. My brother Daler Mehndi is a great pop singer," says the artiste who feels that his journey has been a difficult but a successful one. "Creating your own identity when you have a successful brother is very difficult but I have managed to do that," he says.

And then the man has gone further and done more than celebrity big brother. "I am the only singer in India to have a band. Most of the pop singers hire local bands from the city that they are performing in. I have my own band called OCP i.e. Out of Control Punjabis. We are the first ones in India to start this trend," claims the singer who had the famous foot tapping number mauja hi mauja to his credit.

His favourite singers being Gurdas Maan and Daler Mehndi, he goes on to add, "I love Pune. I have performed here earlier as well and I love the energy of this city. There are a number of youngsters here from across the country and that's why it's fun performing here!"

When asked about the controversy with Rakhi Sawant, the not-so-modest star gives a remark that slightly goes off at a tangent, "I believe that only big people are involved in controversies. It's only celebrities who are talked about. Nobody will talk about a common man. So it is a good sign and an indicator of the fact that I am popular."

And if there was even the slightest of doubt in that, it was definitely dispelled with the response of the crowd at the concert that went all out to demonstrate their Bhangra moves in response to the singer's every line. Way to go!
